D. "Bill" Goodwin
William D. "Bill" Goodwin
Bill Goodwin and Chuck Murchison, have been partners for more than
nine years and active in the oil business for seven of those year.
They formed Target Market Development, a marketing strategy and
sales consulting firm, in 1996. In 1999 the two partners formed
TMD Energy, Inc., an oil and gas exploration, development and production
firm. TMD Energy owns and operates some 41 wells. It also operates
an additional 80 wells for others. In 2004, it joined with Zaveri
Oil Corp., LTD to acquire Kingston Oil Corp, which owned 40,000
acres of producing leases, 53 oil wells and 92 gas wells and was
renamed Ky-Tenn Oil, Inc. (KTO)
Bill Goodwin is an idea man. Some executives are at their best
fine-tuning a program. Bill is at his best facing a problem and
a blank sheet of paper. Over his career in the private and public
sectors, he has been called upon to solve complicated problems by
creating and implementing simple but effective solutions.
He has more than 30 years of experience in the oil business in
Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas. He has managed a drilling company,
serving in every position from toolpusher to president (sometimes
both posts at the same time). Goodwin founded and served as president
of a publicly-owned oil company, where he was involved in every
phase of the operation from leasing to designing stimulation programs
to production. He spent one year in Midland, Texas, where he served
as a consultant to a firm that bought and sold oil and gas properties
for independents and major oil companies in the United States and
Canada.
He serves as the President of the Tennessee Oil & Gas Association
for six and was named the association's Oilman of the Year in 1981.
In 2005 he received the associations Distinguished Service Award.
He is also a founder of the National Association of Royalty Owners
and serves on the Board of Directors of the national organization.
He has remained in the oil business as he and his partner have
developed their management consulting practice. His only absence
was to serve as press secretary to U.S. Senator Dole in his 1980
presidential bid.
His years of experience span financial public relations, marketing
and political strategy at the state and national levels, publishing,
and the independent oil business. He is recognized for his marketing
and communications strategy expertise plus his keen understanding
of business at the corporate and entrepreneurial levels.
Bill worked his way through the University of Kansas as a telephone
lineman, pipeliner and salesman. Upon graduation, he became manager-editor
of a Kansas semi-weekly newspaper that had not been profitable in
25 years. Once he turned it around financially, he became manager,
then director of Public Relations and Publications for the U.S.
Jaycees.
He served as an account executive with Carl Byoir & Associates,
a New York PR firm, before joining Nashville-based Holder-Kennedy
& Co. While there he handled the Brock for U.S. Senate campaign
and went to Washington, D.C. as Brock's press secretary.
Bill served as a campaign consultant to the National Republican
Senatorial Committee before returning to Tennessee where he took
over a debt-ridden oil company. He turned it around and sold it
to run for Congress, a race he lost by a close margin in a heavily
Democratic district.
Bill has served as a consultant to a wide range of clients, including
the American Bus Assoc., Bank One, Borg-Warner, Honeywell, Hospital
Corp. of America, Kemper Institute, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Kodak,
and the Grand Ole Opry.
